Boys Varsity Golf vs. MSU Relays

Game Date
Apr 7, 2016
Score
TIGERS: 0
MSU RELAYS: 0

The WHS Tigers participated in the Missouri State Relays at the Bill and Payne Stewart Golf Course in Springfield today. The winds reached nearly 30 mph but it didn't hinder the Tigers from besting Monday's score by 14 strokes.

The Tigers were led once again by Senior Wade Howser with a solid 79 in tough conditions. This marks the first time in his high school career that he has posted back to back scores in the 70's. His wedges and his flat stick got him through today as getting to the greens in the wind proved difficult. He once again avoided the large number that plagued him throughout last season.

Sophomore Dylan Reynolds fired a personal best 93 as he too saw his short game improve from Monday. He was having a difficult time around the greens so we worked hard on it during practice this week and it really paid off for him. He nearly chipped in twice and two putted most of his greens which aided in his low score.

Sophomore Isaac Brooks posted his personal best of 115, down 11 strokes from Monday. He too has worked very hard on his short game and has really progressed from tee to green. Freshman Alec Chapman saw his first tournament action and came in with a 126. He has now positioned himself as a contender for the 5th varsity spot and will need to continue to improve to solidify that positon.

Junior Jackson Tetreault rounded out the Tiger's scoring with a season high 91. Jackson has been navigating all of the courses for the first time and has handled himself nicely. This young man has a lot of grit on the course. He is a great team mate and role model to all of my younger players. He doesn't allow things to bother him as he plays. Whether he hits a bad shot or makes a high score on a hole, he puts that out of his mind and continues to play to the best of his ability. He can be described as the type of player that I am trying to mold all my players to be like.
