Waynesville Tennis lost their first match of the season tonight in a close battle with the Jeff City Jays, 3-6.  With a rain delay hitting in the middle of the match, the Jays were up 1-3 when the storm rolled in.  Both teams pitched in to help squeegee courts after the rain stopped, and after an hours worth of work, the courts were finally dry enough to finish up the matches.  The pressure was on Brian Fields and Steven Berrios as they came out to finish their singles match after being stopped mid-game.  Brian was down one game coming back onto the court and just barely fell in that last game for a 6-8 loss.  Steven was up by one and with all the pressure of the match on his shoulders.  His game could have determined the final team placement at that point.  With the pressure of the team score on his shoulders, Steven finished with a tight 9-7 victory, keeping the Tigers still in the running for the match.  Needing a win in all three doubles matches for a team victory, the Tigers fell short with only one doubles win.  The Osborn/Roberts duo won their doubles 8-3, Fields/Parker lost 0-8, and Lund/Berrios just barely lost in a nail biter, 4-8.  Lund and Berrios played so well last night.  These guys communicate so well together and play smart tennis.  They can see the court so well and do such a great job of placing the ball right where it needs to go.  Although they were up on the Jays the majority of the match, Jeff City was able to take the lead in the end for the victory.  Despite the loss, this was definitely no match to be ashamed of.  The Tigers played very well tonight, and I was definitely proud to see just how far we've come this season already.  The Tigers are scheduled to take on the Rolla Bulldogs Friday night.
