CoEd Varsity Cross Country vs. Jefferson City Jays

Waynesville Cross Country competed in their first meet of the season at the Jim Marshall Invitational in Jefferson City Saturday morning.
The boys team was led by Luke Morrison who was spiked in the Achilles, lost his shoe and ran the last 2.5 miles of the race with no shoe. He still managed to place 12th with a time of 17:58. Victor Daos performance coming in next for the Tigers with a time 19:42. Impressively, freshman Caleb Pursley was 3rd on the tigers line up. It was a bittersweet race for Keaton Noah as it was his last team competing as a Tiger before he moves. Rounding out the boys varsity race was Brandon Murphey, Evan Nitchman and Matt Jones.
Leading the girls team was Madelyn Newsom who placed 16th with a time of 22:24. Freshman runner Chambre Garcia attacked the Jefferson City hills and debuted her high school cross country career with a 35th place finish. Rounding out the girls varsity race was Brianna Moose, Andrea Trudell, Jasmine Cassidy and Makkah Mujahid.
"Today was a good starting point. Right now we are focused on getting everyone healthy to race. We have some tough girls struggling with injuries right now that we are excited to throw into the mix at our next race in Lebanon on September 11th."
