The Waynesville Tigers participated in the Missouri State University Relays at the Bill and Payne Stewart Golf Course in Springfield today. With warm weather came strong winds that played havoc on many golf swings as 22 teams participated in this annual event.

I asked the team during practice yesterday about a realistic goal toward improving our score from Monday and we came up with 5 strokes per man and a team total score improvement of 20 strokes. Not only did they respond with 20 strokes, but with 35. I was really proud of my two young Freshmen Fred Boone and Dylan Reynolds. On Monday Boone shot a 120 and Reynolds a 145, today Boone carded 16 strokes better with a 104 and Reynolds battled back to card an unbelievable 29 strokes better as he shot a 116. These two scores along with Wade Howser's 86 and Jacob Morriss' 89 gave the Tigers a team total 395 down 35 strokes from their 430 score Monday. James Richardson also made a great improvement with a 121 score, 14 strokes better than on Monday.

I am starting to see the repetition of playing in front of people watching is becoming a little less unnerving for the young players. Each has admitted to being extremely nervous on Monday and today they dealt with the onlookers much better. As a new player it is tough enough to hit quality shot after quality shot let alone having to prove they can make those shots with strangers watching them. We have still not beaten many team scores, but I am not seeing teams make the improvements we are making is such a short time. 

Tristan Haltom of Ava High School was the meet medalist with a 71. Howser's 86 was the low round for the Tigers. The following is a breakdown of team scores by class.
