Boys Varsity Tennis vs. Rolla HS

Game Date
Apr 6, 2015
Score
TIGERS: 7
ROLLA HS: 2

Waynesville Tennis pulled out another win against Rolla tonight, 7-2.  We verse Rolla multiple times each season between multiple team duals and tournaments, and it seems like they always pull out just ahead of us by a couple points.  They always seem to be one of our closest competitors, making tonight's win a much celebrated victory.  Waynesville took the lead quickly with only one loss in singles play.  Despite the loss, Kyle Roberts played very well against his opponent.  Kyle plays a very fast-paced game.  He is a great all-around athlete with strong stokes and quick feet.  Unfortunately, his opponent came out with a short slice shot that would bounce with very little height.  This short shot, combined with a court that gives little bounce anyway, made for a difficult time trying to get a racquet under the ball for a shot over the net.  It definitely slowed game play and allowed for a very frustrating game for Kyle.  Still yet, Kyle kept his head in the game and worked multiple strategies to attempt to defeat Hushaw's slice.  He definitely put up a fight!  Fortunately, Kyle bounced back in doubles with Robert Osborn defeating Hushaw/Balakrishnan, 8-5.  Another exciting match was played by Brian Fields tonight in his 3rd seeded singles match.  With four individual wins completed already by the Tigers, Brian's singles match was the next to either solidify a Tiger victory or keep the Bulldogs in the running.  Brian kept his head in the game and finally took the win in a very tight tiebreaker, 9-8 (14-12), giving the Tigers their 5th individual win of the night.  With a  3-1 record so far on the season, the Waynesville Tigers will travel Tuesday to take on Salem.
