Waynesville Tennis fell to Camdenton tonight in a very close 4-5 match. These types of matches are always the most fun to watch, but by far the most stressful for the coach. We were neck and neck the whole way through the match tonight. Starting with doubles, Waynesville took the first victory in 2 doubles with Kyle Roberts and David Lund defeating their opponents (8-5) for the second time in a week. These duos also met up to play in Saturday's Waynesville Invitational with Waynesville taking the victory, 6-4. Waynesville came up just short tonight in the other two doubles matches with Brian Fields and John Parker falling 7-9, and Robert Osborn and Steven Berrios downed 6-8. I am super impressed with Steven. With this only being his second year playing, and holding the number 6 position on the team, Steven really steps up in his 1 Doubles position. These boys took on a tough team tonight. Grant Burton took the 2nd place finish in singles at our tournament and plays great tennis. Mason is also a very strong player. Steven really stepped up and played well against both. These guys have killer serves and don't like to give up too many points. Robert Osborn has really taken partner Steven under his wing and is helping mentor Steven's tennis game. They communicate well together and have both benefitted from Robert's experience and expertise that he is passing down to Steven. Berrios will definitely be an impeccable tennis player if he sticks around through Senior year. Following doubles, Camdenton and Waynesville fought back and forth for individual wins. Unfortunately, Camdenton remained just one game ahead of us all night. We will meet them again in conference and districts, and I'm excited to see the two teams battle again.
The Tigers will take on closely ranked Osage on Thursday 4/30 at home. This will be the Tigers final home game for the season as they celebrate the 11 Seniors graduating this year. Varsity tennis will travel to Conference next Tuesday before traveling to Willow Springs next Thursday with the rest of the team for the last time this season.
