Waynesville Tennis at Lebanon/Camdenton Pooled Tournament – 1st Round – 2nd Place

Waynesville Tennis took 2nd place in the first round of the Lebanon/Camdenton pooled tournament.  Today, four different teams met in both Lebanon and Camdenton to compete for a chance to move to the second round.  In the Lebanon pool, Waynesville, Willow Springs, Osage, and Lebanon played a round robin style format, while Camdenton, Kirksville, Richland, and Clinton competed against one other as well in the Camdenton pool.  The top two teams in each pool are to move on to round two in Camdenton tomorrow.  After a long day, with each kid playing a total of six matches, the Tigers left with a 2nd place trophy and a chance to play for third overall.  I’m so proud of my boys! They played so well today and fought so hard for every point.  They’re absolutely exhausted and earned every medal that was brought home.  Falling only to Willow Springs, 4-5, the Tigers were only one point away from taking 1st.  Waynesville beat Osage 7-2 and Lebanon 8-1.  We also had 5 individuals medal.  In singles, David Sneed, Derick Anglin, Cameron Martell, and Eromo Aligbe brought home 1st place medals, Tyler Gayman brought home a 2nd place medal.  In doubles, the #3 pair David Sneed and Eromo Aligbe brought home gold and #2 duo Tyler Gayman and Cameron Martell brought home silver.  In addition, Steven Berrios finished the day with the best match I’ve seen him play yet.  Completely exhausted and battling a cold as well, he played a long, back-and-forth match against Lebanon’s #1 Bryson Crowell.  Falling to Crowell earlier in the season, Steven took his revenge today, winning 9-7.  Gaining the lead early, then falling behind shortly thereafter, Steven fought back for the victory in a match that would make any coach so proud.  Today was definitely a success! The Tiger netters finally have a break, facing Lebanon at home on Thursday of next week.
