After placing 2nd in yesterday’s pool of the Lebanon/Camdenton tournament, the Waynesville Tigers traveled to Camdenton to play for an overall 3rd place of both pools. Waynesville beat Camdenton 8-1 to take the 3rd place trophy out of the 8 teams overall. Playing doubles first, Waynesville grabbed two quick wins at #2 and #3 doubles. On court 1, Steven Berrios and Derick Anglin then took a 9-8 (7-2) tiebreaker victory. The boys started behind in the beginning, falling as low 4-7 before making a huge comeback against Camdenton’s skilled player, Grant Burton, and his #3 doubles partner. Finishing in a tiebreaker, this has been by far the best match they’ve played yet this season. Communication is definitely key in doubles. The boys are doing a much better job of talking to one another on the court, and it shows with their amazing court coverage. Steven and Derick are both fighters, and this duo has proven to make a successful team. I’m extremely proud of this match. It’s been great to see the boys play against some very experienced players, like Grant, as well. With Berrios new to the #1 seed and Derick new to #1 doubles, today’s match gained a huge batch of confidence for them as a doubles team. It is exciting to bring home trophies two days in a row. This has made a crucial impact on enhancing the whole team’s confidence and morale as well. This is exactly what we need right before moving into play with tennis schools like Kickapoo, Central, and Glendale. The Tigers have a bit of a break from match play before taking on Lebanon once again on Thursday at home.
