Despite the rain and flooding on I-44, the Waynesville Tennis team took a detour to Springfield and was blessed with a sunny day and a 4th place finish overall. Of the 10 teams in the Conference, the Tigers played Camdenton first, taking a 5-3 over the Lakers. With all the rain we have had, the team hasn’t had a practice in a long time. If you want to be competitive in tennis, you need to be hitting tennis balls. I was worried that a lack of playing time would affect today’s standings. The Tigers held their own, however, and came out fighting.
After beating Camdenton, Waynesville went on to play 2nd seeded Joplin. Coming out behind 3-5, the Tigers just barely lost to this solid team. We played them well. I was very pleased. Obviously, I was hoping for the win, but I was still very pleased with how the boys played. Joplin is a good team. Always has been.
Next, the Tigers lost to the always-powerful Glendale netters. Although not the overwhelming powerhouse they usually are, Glendale has still produced some heavy hitters, causing Waynesville to fall 1-6 and ending 4th overall.
Waynesville Tennis will host the Waynesville Invitational this Friday at the high school and middle school courts.
