The WHS Lady Tiger Golf Team participated in the Missouri State University Relays at the Bill and Payne Stewart Golf Course in Springfield today.
The weather was the best we have seen since the beginning of practice in early August and the Lady Tigers took advantage of the nice weather by improving their team score by 29 points from yesterday's Helias Invitational score.
The ladies collectively shot a 475 down from the 504 total yesterday. I had asked each player to make a goal to try and better their score by 5 strokes per player. By average, they managed to improve by 7.25 strokes per player. As I watched them today, I saw more confidence, more solid contact, and better work around the greens than yesterday. Each player now has a reason to make practice relevant and that should lead to continual improvement in their overall game which will hopefully lead to improved scoring.
Victoria Hooker once again led the Tigers with a sixth place medal finishing score of 86. Karissa Keyes was much improved today as she took 12 shots off her score yesterday with a 116. I was really impressed with the rapid tee to green improvement in Sophomore Paiton Quinones as she shot a 134 today and bettered her score from yesterday by 9 strokes. Catherine Roman is steadily improving and shot 3 strokes better with a 139. Senior Hana Hosick was unfortunately unable to make her season debut due to illness. Once we get her in the rotation, I should see the team scoring drop 15-25 strokes from where we are currently scoring.
The Lady Tigers will next play at Camdenton on Tuesday, September 6th with a 4:00 pm tee time at Deer Chase Golf Course in Lynn, MO.
