CAMDENTON HS - DISTRICT SEMI-FINAL: 1

The rivalry intensifies.  Waynesville's girls' soccer team eliminated the Camdenton Lakers from Class 3 District 10 play with a hard fought 2-1 win in Saturday's semifinal game at Tiger Stadium.  The Lakers, seeded second ahead of Waynesville, and ranked 10th among the state's Class 3 teams, had narrowly beaten WHS in a shootout last month, but the Tigers were not to be denied this time.  The tension in the game increased when Waynesville went ahead on a disputed goal by Jessica  Schellhase just 14:37 into the first half.  After a yellow card was issued to the Camdenton bench both teams turned up the heat and by game's end, 29 fouls had been called and four yellows issued.  Camdenton began the game with all-stater Whitney Snow benched due to an injury and Waynesville jumped out in front just 62 seconds into the game when Camia Blash scored.  Needing a boost, the Lakers brought Snow into the game and she scored off a corner kick 12 minutes later.  With just another 1:30 off the clock, Schellhase let loose with a monstrous ball from sixty yards out near the right touchline.  The ball sailed high and long, slammed into the crossbar and fell straight down where it was grabbed on the bounce by the Camdenton goalkeeper.  Therein ensued the argument as officials ruled it bounced on the net side of the line.  Camdenton disagreed and forced a stoppage to complain, but the goal was held up by the officials and the Tigers shutout the Lakers the rest of the way.  Credit for that should go to a stout defense and the solid play of varsity keeper D'Anna Hasik who had several saves along the way.  She did this in her first game back after sustaining an injury a few weeks ago.  The Tigers advance to Tuesday's six p.m. championship game against top-seeded and fourth-ranked Jefferson City which beat Lebanon 7-0.
