Girls Varsity Tennis vs. Waynesville Tournament
- Game Date
- Sep 27, 2014
The Waynesville tennis team took 7th place Saturday at the Waynesville Invitational. Down two players, we had to bring a couple JV players up to take on the Varsity level responsibility.
Number 7 Emaily Martin and Number 8 Alysia Amato stepped up and played well. Both losing in the first two rounds, each girl matched up against some very experienced players, but definitely put up a good fight. Emaily lost 3-8 against Willow Spring's Alana Biehl, and then 0-6 to Richland's Chandra Ancell. Alysia just barely fell in both of her matches, making her opponents work for every point. Alysia fell 6-8 to Amy Belline from Richland and 5-7 to Trisha Barnes from Forsyth.
Our number 1 doubles team finished 3rd overall and played the best tennis that I have ever seen them play together. Lindzie King and Paige Massey won their first match against Osage, 8-5. Unfortunately, they ran into the championship team in the second round. Waynesville's duo played their hearts out and really put up a fight in their second match against Forsyth, falling 2-8. Coming back, Lindzie and Paige beat Lebanon's team, 6-3 for the 3rd place medal. These girls have really come a long way. They're learning how to play a very aggressive and offensive game of tennis. They're becoming more and more consistent with every match.
Finally, our number 2 doubles team, Randi Anderlik and Mollie Henry, took 6th place overall. These girls faced a difficult Camdenton team first round, just barely falling 6-8. However, the girls came back in a super close match against Willow Springs, winning 7-6 (7-5) in a tiebreaker. In third round, they lost to Farmington's duo 2-6.
