Girls Varsity Tennis vs. Multiple Opponents

Game Date
Aug 25, 2016

Tiger Tennis walked away with two more wins tonight, bringing their overall record to 3-1.  Playing Parkview first tonight, the Tiger only gave away 5 games total, winning 9-0.  Due to Parkview only having three girls on their team, the Tigers had the game in the bag before even stepping out on the court.  But the Tigers didn’t just settle there.  The girls stepped out to take every game the Vikings would give up.  Mollie Henry had the best match of the dual, skunking her opponent 8-0.

The Tigers then went on to play the Hillcrest Hornets, winning 8-1 as a team.  Watching our top two girls play, I noticed just how in control of the match they were, especially in doubles.  Typically, tennis players don’t win a match because they had the best shots and put away the most winners.  Typically, they win because they had the least amount of errors.  That was not the case tonight.  On the first two courts tonight, Lindzie King and Mollie Henry had full control of the game.  The ball would barely get in play before they would quickly finish the point off with a winner, smashing the ball away from their opponents.  I can’t say it made for the most interesting matches to watch, but it was definitely beautiful to see them set themselves up for a winner at net nearly every point.  Shonda Frazier also had a great match tonight.  She is typically on our JV roster, but for the past 4 matches, she has competed at the Varsity level, due to some of the girls’ inability to compete just yet.  Shonda has really stepped up.  I think Monday night’s match at Lebanon came as a shock, having never played at that level before.  She’s really stepped up, however, and has contributed multiple wins for her team this week.  This challenge has been good for her.  It’s forced her to become most competitive, move her feet quicker, and develop a stronger, more powerful stroke.  She’s accepted this challenge well.  I feel like I’m watching a completely different player now at the end of the week than who I watched play Monday night.

The girls have one more fight in them as they take on their fifth and final match of the week against Richland.  Waynesville will be hosting the next few matches at the Middle School, as the district works to resurface the high school courts.
