Waynesville displayed electrifying speed and quickness on both sides of the ball at Friday night's Glendale Jamboree. The Tigers scored twice in their first five plays against Marshfield. Quarterback Varon Martinez opened the scoring with a 32 yard run. On the very next play, Martinez found wide receiver Reggie Walker for a 40 yard scoring strike. The Tigers went on to shutout Marshfield 24-0 as Martinez later found Seth Hedrick on a 34 yard pass play and handed off to Jason Smith for a 40 yard run into the end zone.
Next up was powerful Nixa and the Tiger defense shutdown and shutout the Eagles to open the scrimmage. With the ball, Waynesville pounded away and scored on its ninth play when Martinez threw his third t.d. pass of the night, this time hitting Nigel Farmer from 16 yards out.
Against Ozark Conference foe Glendale, the Tigers chose not to tip their hand and went with reserves on offense. While kept out of the end zone, WHS still gained 48 yards on 12 plays for a four-yard average. Then, on defense, Waynesville totally shutdown the host team for a 0-0 tie.
For the night, the Tigers passed for 174 yards and rushed for another 100. Defensively, Luke Main and Reggie Walker each intercepted passes. Walker also broke up an attempt. Waynesville will open its season Friday at home against West Plains.
