The pageantry of Homecoming 2019 was in full affect Friday as the Tigers hosted the Central High Bulldogs. A packed house enjoyed a treat, the Varsity Tigers took care of business in record breaking fashion with a 77-0 victory! Three individual records and four team records were broken, along with three more school records being tied.
The game started off with the Tigers kickoff unit causing a fumble and recovering the ball. The first play from scrimmage for the offense resulted in a 33 yard TD pass from JR QB Mike Lewis to SR WR Jaylen Andrews. Soph Kicker Chase Evans tacked on the extra point for the 7-0 lead. Another kickoff by the special team unit, followed by an interception by SR DB Kevin Poinsette on the first offensive play from scrimmage for the Central Bulldogs. Five offensive snaps later, the Tigers SR RB Shen Butler-Lawson ran in a 16 yard TD and Evans added another extra point to make the score 14-0 with just over 10 minutes remaining in the first quarter.
The Tigers poured on the points in the first and second quarter, ending the first with a 35-0 lead, and closing out the first half with a 63-0 lead. Waynesville scored two more touchdowns in the second half for their total 77 point out put. The scoring came from a host of players throughout the game. Lewis accounted for 3 TD passes, Andrews had 2 TD receptions, Butler-Lawson had 4 total TDs, JR QB LJ Beam had a 60 yard TD run, Poinsette scored on a 48 yard fumble recovery, FR RB Evander Bradford scored on a 34 yard TD run, Soph RB Eric Richardson scored on runs of 39 and 31 yards, and Evans went 11 for 11 on PATs.
