The 7th grade Tigers traveled to Bolivar last night to start their season and took a 20-14 loss.  The game was dominated by both defenses early as neither the Tigers or Liberators could generate much offense.  The Liberator defense scored the opening points of the game by sacking Tiger quarterback Bishop Godwin in the Tiger endzone.  The Liberators struck again on the ensuing kickoff as they returned it for a TD.  Their 2 point conversion failed.  With a 8-0 Bolivar lead, the Tigers took to the air on their next possession as Godwin connected with Jonathan Hedrick on a 67 yard TD pass.  The Tiger conversion failed.  With an 8-6 lead the Liberators started a ground and pound game that scored a touchdown right before half.  The halftime score was 14-6 Bolivar.  The Tigers attempted to regroup at halftime but still couldn't get a consistent running game going in the second half.  The Liberators were able to move the ball on the ground and took a 20-6 lead going into the 4th quarter.  Late in the 4th Godwin went back to work with his aerial assault and struck Mason Perez for a touchdown and Rashawn Fowler for the conversion to close the gap to 20-14.  After Bolivar recovered an attempted onsides kick they were able to run out the clock and secure the win.

The Tigers next contest will be next Thursday (9/13) at Jarrett middle school in Springfield.
