Tuesday's first half of soccer at Anderson Field was just plain numbing. The Tigers and West Plains appeared at times to be images of one another with both teams slogging through the motions and a 0-0 tie at halftime. But that's when the Tigers pulled out the heavy guns.
Waynesville erupted for seven second half goals, including three in a stretch of one minute seven seconds , to knock previously undefeated West Plains out of first place in the Ozark Conference. Who's on top of the hill now? WHS.
The heavy guns first came out when Caleb Rodriguez scored 4:38 into the second half, but the fun was just beginning. Chase Holden scored at the 30:52 mark and then again just 17 seconds later off a pass from Rodriguez. Rodriguez put the game out of reach at 4-0 just fifty seconds later . The Zizzers were looking for an electrical recharge at that point.
But they never found it, because the Tigers weren't done. Alberto Reyes made it 5-0. Rodriguez scored again for his second hat trick in as many nights, and Diamond Kaaihue redirected a David Ortiz corner kick into the net to end the assault by a 7-0 score.
The Tigers had 15 shots on goal to just three for the visitors. Next up is a trip to Camdenton on Thursday.
