The Nixa Eagles avenged their Friday night home loss to Waynesville last year and returned the favor with a 5-1 win Friday night at Anderson Field. The loss snapped the Tigers' six-game season-opening win streak.
The Tigers had some good scoring chances early, but couldn't find the back of the net. Then, in the 18th minute, Nixa was credited with a goal on a disputed offside call for a 1-0 halftime lead. The Eagles squeezed another one on the scoreboard three minutes in to the second half. The Tigers came right back and Riley King scored on a header off of another Chase Holden corner kick. Holden has found several teammates in that manner this year.
But Nixa's speed and conditioning took over at that point and the Eagles found the range three more times. Both teams fired away at will, each taking 18 shots on the night; but Nixa had 13 on goal and WHS just 7. Tiger goalkeeper Jon Moore had eight saves on the busy night.
