For a while, whenever Waynesville scored, Sikeston would counter with a goal of its own, but the Tigers got the last word in for a 3-2 win Saturday morning in the Kickapoo Tournament. The Bulldogs used a physical style of game to match up with the faster Tigers, the result being a scoreless first half as both squads fought off the other's attacks.
But things changed rapidly after the break. Just 1:23 in, Louis Tejada found himself with the ball and unmarked for a goal from straight out of the box. Sikeston tied the game eight-and-a-half minutes later, but within the next minute Caleb Rodriguez controlled a high bounce with his back to the goal, pivoted and volleyed the ball past the keeper. Not to be out done, Sikeston came right back to tie just 34 seconds later. The game then settled in to resemble the first half with no one able to sneak one in. It was Rodriguez who put an end to it all when he chipped the ball over the keeper into the far side net with 12:07 remaining.
At that point the Tigers were the only undefeated team in the tournament's Brown Division round robin format.
