Junior forwards Chase Holden and Caleb Rodriguez each scored in the first half and senior goalkeeper Jon Moore came up big in the second as Waynesville edged Fort Zumwalt East 2-1  Saturday at Tiger Stadium.  The game was the first-ever meeting of the two schools in soccer.

Holden put the Tigers up in the 15th minute with a header past the Lions' keeper.  The play was initiated by a pass from Rodriguez to Hunter Ball.  Ball then chipped a pass over the defense to find Holden for the shot.  About 17 minutes later Holden layed a nice pass forward to Rodriguez who found the back of the net for a 2-0 edge.

FZE tied the game with 1:08 left in the half when a short punt resulted in a quick counter attack and goal.  The Lions pressed WHS throughout the second half, but Moore responded with two big saves to maintain  the lead.  The first came with eleven minutes remaining. He stretched to his right for a one-handed save after dropping to the ground on his left.  At the 5;45 mark, he punched away a throw in and then saved the rebound shot.   He finished with ten saves in the game.
