Waynesville claimed a victory in Saturday's game after losing a close one Friday in the Thomas Whitfield Games at Rolla High School. The tournament honors the memory of the late Bulldog soccer star. The Tigers defeated Joplin College Heights 2-0, but lost to St. Louis Parkway Central 2-1.
Waynesville blasted the College Heights goalkeeper with 27 shots, 16 of them on goal, but could only find the back of the net once. That came with 27:34 remaining when Chase Holden scored off an assist from Hunter Ball. Heavy pressure continued with three more shots in the next few minutes, but it was an own goal under that pressure that resulted in the final score. Jon Moore had five saves for the shutout in goal.
Friday's game was just the opposite offensively as the Tigers managed only two shots the entire game. After a scoreless first half, the Colts went up 2-0. Caleb Rodriguez scored off of a header with 7:48 left, but it was the Tigers' last shot of the game.
WHS is now 13-7 on the season. After playing at Ozark on Tuesday, they will conclude the regular season at home Thursday against Jefferson City. The game will be played at Tiger Stadium.
