Senior goalkeeper Jacob Woodward had a career high 14 saves against tenth-ranked Glendale Wednesday night, but the Tigers couldn't get the job done on the other end of the field and dropped a 2-0 decision at Lowe Stadium in Springfield. The Tigers still have a one game lead over Glendale for second place in the Ozark Conference, but Kickapoo is now in first place with a five and oh mark.
Woodward had a stellar night, making a variety of gifted stops and finding the midfield stripe with several punts during the game. Glendale shot early and often in the game, with 16 shots on goal and nearly twice that total overall. Senior Captain Bobby Spence scored both Glendale goals, one in each half.
Waynesville had no answer for the Falcons on offense. The Tigers failed to place a shot on goal despite some opportunities. Two of those came in the first half. With 11:52 remaining Danny Sesay offered up a chip pass to Brandon Hofmann, but his shot sailed just high. Just 1:13 later, Sesay raced to catch up with a through ball, but the Glendale keeper smothered it just in time. Early in the second half, Alberto Reyes volleyed a corner kick just over the bar and with 16:30 remaining, Sesay broke away with the ball on a diagonal run to the wide left, but his shot proved just narrow of the near post.
The Tigers play this weekend in the Kickapoo Tournament. WHS won one of the two brackets in the tournament last year.
