The Tiger soccer scoring drought extended to 320 minutes over the weekend as Waynesville failed to score a goal in the Kickapoo Tournament. The Tigers have struggled in losing four of five games since forward Caleb Rodriguez was injured. On Wednesday they played well but were shutout at Glendale. In the Kickapoo gold division, they played progressively worse throughout the three games.
WHS opened Friday afternoon against Class Two tenth-ranked Springfield Catholic and gave the Irish all they could handle, but Catholic scored with fifteen minutes left for a 1-0 win. Waynesville next faced Sedalia-Sacred Heart in an early-start eight a.m. game on Saturday. The Tigers had two good scoring opportunities against the Gremlins. Alberto Reyes placed a header just above the bar in the first half and a Hunter Ball shot went the same way in the second. Meanwhile, Sacred Heart scored once in each half for a 2-0 win.
That put WHS in the 7th place game against Poplar Bluff. The Mules had proven they could score with seven goals in their two losses, and they continued doing so to blank Waynesville 6-0. The Tigers could do little right in the game. They will host Rolla in O.C. action Monday on the turf at Tiger Stadium.
